Formed in 2021 Black Octopus Productions came together with one goal, to make films we wanted to see in the world. We would remain fiercely independent, be unmoved by bandwagon hopping or “the latest thing” and do it all in the right way. So far we have produced four short films, one feature film, are entering pre-production on our next feature and developing another feature for 2026.
Along with films we are developing a musical which should hit theatres later this year and providing workshops and services for actors and other industry professionals.
A pitch-black, psychological horror film from writer and director Hayden Hewitt. Cara premiered at FrightFest 24 to a sold out showing and is now available to rent or buy on Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Rakuten and Spectrum with more to come.

“Elbows” follows 24 hours in the life of Nathan Tomes, a young man who finds himself trapped in a dead-end job with a boss who hates him and fate continually dealing him a bad hand. However, the drudge of a typical office day is soon enlivened by an innocuous phone call and a biro, leading to what, by any standards, can be called an explosive finale.
Released in November 2021, “Unseen” is the multi award-winning debut short film from Black Octopus Productions. Depicting unflinching glimpses of a homeless man’s battle with both his own mind and life as an outcast, “Unseen” offers the viewer the opportunity to make up their own mind as to the morality, justice and social dilemmas facing the protagonist, Barry.
